Border Collie - Asher - Medium - Young - Male - Dog
Asher ended up in a shelter with a broken back leg, having been hit by a car. His owner never came to claim him so our rescue ended up taking him to give him time to heal before finding a home for him. After doing x-rays, our vet told us that Asher's leg was already healing nicely, that it didn't need to be surgically repaired, and that it shouldn't cause him any problems in the future--save for possibly an occasional slight limp after playing/running a lot. (Now that he has had several weeks for the leg to heal, you'd never guess he ever had a broken leg! If you don't believe us, watch his video!)
Our best guess is that Asher is about 9 months old and is a Border Collie/Newfoundland mix. (He is pretty much full grown right now, and he weighs about 35 lbs. so he is the size of a Border Collie, but he has very soft, silky fur like a "Newfie", and he also has some charming Newfie personality traits.)
Asher is extremely smart (he learned how to use a doggie door right away) and he enjoys teasing his foster mom and playing keep-away. And also loves other dogs and he really gets into games of tug-of-war as well as playing with his other toys.
Asher is very sweet and loving, he already knows "sit", and we are working on some other commands and tricks as well.
(At this point, unfortunately--being the tease that he is--Asher thinks "stay" means "dart off", so his new adopter will need to be extra cautious that he doesn't escape.
Since Asher is a puppy and is part Border Collie, Asher will need to be kept busy and will need a "job" so as not to get into too much mischief. (Since he is so smart, we think that--with good training--he would make an excellent agility dog.)
Asher would do best with a large safely fenced yard (please, no invisible fencing), and he would do best in a home without small children, since he needs to be adopted by someone who has lots of time to train him properly.
Asher is very close to being housebroken but would benefit from not being a "latchkey dog", so that his adopter could take him out to relieve himself on a regular basis while he is putting the finishing touches on his potty skills. Asher is crate trained and he has been neutered, immunized, heartworm tested, microchipped, and wormed. We are asking a $275 adoption donation for him.
If you think Asher would be a good match for you (and you, for him) please e-mail us at: [email removed] and tell us about yourself (your schedule, if you have a fenced yard, if you have other pets, etc.), Then--if we agree that you would be a good match for each other--we will e-mail you an adoption application to fill out and return to us, prior to your meeting Asher. Please go to our home page to read more about our rescue's adoption policies and fees. We do not operate a humane society or shelter, so we do not have a facility that is open to the public. Our dogs are fostered by volunteers in private homes, and are not available for viewing until an adoption application is filled out and references are checked. Again, please read the information on our home page before contacting us.
