Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) - Brewster - Medium - Young
We took Brewster into our rescue program because he had a broken leg which needed to be repaired by an orthopedic veterinary surgeon. (The surgery was expensive and complicated, but it went well.) Now Brewster is a very happy camper! His leg still doesn't work normally, but our veterinarian is happy with the way it has healed and Brewster is still able to use it a fair amount. He plays and jumps (as you can see in his photos and the video) and he can outrun most of the other dogs at the dog park! We are so happy that we chose to do the right thing for Brewster, but--now that he is healed--he really needs a loving home of his own. Brewster is very, very smart (he already knows "sit"!), and he loves to play "fetch" with a tennis ball. He is cute and fun-loving, he is extremely treat oriented (so he'll be easy to train) and he is eager to please. He is just under a year of age, and he still working on his doggie manners so he would benefit from attending puppy obedience classes so that he will learn not to jump up on people, how to "stay", etc. (Because Brewster is still a kid himself and he is strong and sometimes clumsy, he might inadvertently injure a little person by knocking them over, so he would do best in a family who doesn't have young children.) Brewster plays well with other dogs (of all sizes) at the dog park, he is fine with cats, and he is very loving and cute! We are guessing that Brewster is probably a mix of Cattle Dog, Smooth Coated Collie and....a mixture of a few other breeds. We think he's the best of all possible worlds! He is full grown and he weighs between 35 and 40 lbs., so he's just the right size--not too big and not too small. (And don't you LOVE his ears?) Now that we have invested in saving Brewster's leg, might you be interested in taking him into your heart and your home? He has been neutered, immunized, wormed, and microchipped and--while our rescue has spent a significant amount to have his leg repaired--his adoption fee is only $275. (As they say, "Rescue vet bill: $3000...Adoption fee: $275....A lifetime of sloppy kisses and devotion: PRICELESS!) We would prefer that Brewster not be a latchkey dog, so an adopter who is home much of the time, is retired, or works out of his/her home would work best for him. He would also enjoy a safely fenced yard (please, no invisible fencing) and another gentle dog to play with. If you think that you would be a good fit for Brewster (and that he would be the right dog for you) please e-mail us at: [email removed] and tell us a little about yourself, your other family members, your daily schedule, etc. Then, if we decide you would be a good match for each other, we will e-mail you an adoption application. If, on the other hand, you aren't in a position to adopt Brewster but would like to help us with his vet bill, any donation--large or small--would be much appreciated. And, because we are a 501c(3) organization, your donation will be tax deductible. We do not operate a humane society or shelter, so we do not have a facility that is open to the public. Our dogs are fostered by volunteers in private homes, so they are not available for viewing until an adoption application is filled out and references are checked. Again, please read the information on our home page before contacting us. Thank you so much for considering adopting a rescue dog!
